Horse Costs?


I have been researching the costs to get a horse sometime in the future. I have made a list of supplies (not including saddle, stirrups, or leathers) for a boarded horse. Please tell me if I am missing anything or if anything nessecary is not needed.

I put comments next to things that i think you dont acutally need. Some things you havent thought about yet are sunscreen, training additions for the bridle, reins, special feed if your horse needs it, and remember boarding costs hundreds of dollars a month. Make sure you can afford this fully. You might want to try leasing if this is your first horse. And you didnt include what you will be wearing. Make sure you have all the safty equiptment.

safe)
thermometer (vet and stable should provide this)
thrush/antifungal (only necessary if your horse gets this
disease... if not you are over treating and they coulp
become resistant to the drug)
vet patches (your vet should provide these)
tack trunk (see if your stable has a tack room you can use)
multi-purpose cleaner
horse treats (You can make these for a lot less)
fly repellant wipes (if you have fly spray and your horse doenst spook at it, you dont need these, this is just for spooky horses)
shipping boots (pollo boots work great)

equine insurance...

sun block (for a white nose), polo wraps, splint boots and bell boots (if you are going to do jumping or if your horse oversteps) possibly martingale, SWAT pink fly cream for his ears so they are protected against flies and gnats too!! tote bag for all of your brushes etc... TREATS!!! saddle/leather cleaner! paddock boots to train and putz around in-- that you can get dirty. Possible winter blanket, fly sheet and or rain sheet....Thats all i can think of for now =) good job
