I am goin going to be working in Thailand, can I also work as a journalist?

I am a humanitarian aid/international development worker. I will be working with the UN beginning in 1 month. I will be stationed in Bangkok and may have some rural travel in the region. I have 2 Master's in my field and I have written/researched for the UN and academic publications. I have never written for a newspaper. Can I get assignments as a journalist while I am there? What can I do to gain experience in journalism while I am there? I will be working on many interesting projects so I will have plenty to write about.

You can work as a journalist. You will need to get a further work permit. In order to get this, you will need some verifiable credentials as a journalist in your home country.

If you're just writing articles rather than trying to gain access to press briefings, you could simply not bother with this cumbersome work permit application.

You could try applying for a sub-editor's job with the Bangkok Post or the Nation. Assignments are far more likely to come from publications outside of Thailand.
