Does the National government provide funds to aid organizations and americans who have disabilites?

i am doing a research project for AP US Government. We are studying whether the National or State governments handle the problems of the people better. i've been having problems trying to find whether or not the Federal government provides funds or gets involved other than passing legislation. can anybody help me??

Yes.

IDEA (Individuals with Disablity in Education Act) provides funding for schools and states to address disabled school-aged folks. The schools/states rely heaviliy on this funding.

ADA (American Disabilities Act) funds a lot of agencies as well. Additionally, they allow private non-profit organizations to have tax relief so that they can put more of their funds into operations to help their clients. They also provide for enforcement in the Dept of Justice to ensure their is compilance with the ADA (through the EEOC and DOJ Civil Rights Division at least.

Additionally, social security benefits and other benefits are provided for those that are disabled and unable to work. Medical benefits are also provided to the disabled (medicare/medicaid...one or both...I can't recall).

The VA provides disability benefits to persons with service-related disabilities (don't get me started on whether they do a good enough job...i'm just answering your question).

Hopefully that gives you something to start your research.

Social Security

The federal government assists veterans who have paid the price by protecting
its citizens through constant training and war.
Social security is an insurance program that citizens pay through withholding taxes. Unscrupulous politicians call it welfare. It is a bargain ,however, it has been gutted of funds by the government using the money to pay for pork barrel projects..
There is transfer of federal funds back to states for education of the disabled.
This is in the form of money to school districts for special education. Many children are helped with devastating disabilities. These would be impossible
to deal with without specially trained
helpers to assist in their care while in school. The government has never funded this problem at the level promised and the states must pick up the slack.

As a child I was disabled with an eye condition that could have impeded my progress. The state and county, visiting my rural school, saw to it that I received several surgeries that allowed me to compete with peers. Meanwhile, the
federal government delivered concentrated orange juice to the school.
Kids were malnourished. In a way, these kids were temporarily disabled. The kids did do better. The orange juice was plentiful and the rule was they could have it at any time, even during class.
There are several programs for disabled
run by the federal government. Small loans to start a business, and indirect help through preference in hiring, for example, I rerceived a 10 point preference on the federal job entrance exam.
The feds do an amazing job with a relatively small workforce in comparison to the number of citizens served. They also offer grants for research which directly impacts non-disabled and disabled alike. These grants go through universities but others are eligible as well.
I hope this helps. Each state is doing a good job with prisons. they monitor schools and professionals who do everything from cut hair to brain surgery, Roads, taxation and compliance,
and regulating housing, trailers, driving, and fish and game. They do a great job, in most cases. State legislators from home districts bring the needs of the people to the attention of citizens and government. Compared to other countries, we get a bargain, cheaply, and demand a smile too.
I hope this mini tome helps. :) good luck
