What are the most?

Important first aid items to keep around for your dog? Have any of you researched enough to know what to do if your dog is..........injured, eats something that could kill it, when to make a dog vomit or when Not to make a dog vomit, bleeding, not breathing?

Sometimes you have to act first and call the vet next.

Yup! I took several dog safety courses and a dog resuscitation course (CPR) for puppies and adult dogs. I also have a full first aid kit here just for the dogs! Should I need it.

Alot of vet hold classe and so does the Red Cross! Lots of breed clubs too!

what did you do to your dog?
shampoo, and cleanign supplies are all u should need
+ # to a good vet

A roll of gauze can be used to cover and clean a wound, absorb blood and other body fluids, and it can be used to make a quick makeshift muzzle. I always keep one handy.

I keep regular human first aid stuff in a kit in the kitchen all put together and have had to dig in to it for the dogs on several occasions. I also keep my vet's number, the nearest 24 hour vet's number, and the number for Animal poison control on the fridge. In most cases simple first aid techniques work well for a dog too.

And really, if my dog was in dire straights, the last stop Id make is to ask what to do from a bunch of strangers online. I get so annoyed with those questions. (Im not directing that to the original poster, Im just venting about seeing the same idiotic questions over and over and over ;) )

Gauze, Pepto Bismol (tsp for voniting), or tums(also for vomiting)

Water and the number to a vet.....

dogs naturally know when there not well - you will find when a dog is ill it will eat grass to make it be sick which is normal...
but if you know your dog has eaten something.. ie.. posien
its always good to check with a vet - you can always call first and talk to a nurse and see if she thinks you should come in

you should always have your house proofed... just like with children - if your dog is bored it will try and get into everything - dont leave poisen..cleaning products or small objects in its reach.

I keep gauze and an Ace Bandage, and Peroxide in case she eats something she shouldn't, and that needs to get out, provided it's something that CAN be brought up.

I know how to perform CPR on a dog or a cat, and I have the Animal Poison Hotline # on my fridge, and have my E-Vet on speed dial.

I have dobies (obviously) which are prone to bloat, so I keep GasX around, hydrogen peroxide handy in case they need to vomit, tape... wow, I have a huge list, but really I have pretty much everything you could ever need. I have a cabinet full of first aid stuff. I'm a paranoid freak. I also keep the nearest emergency clinic number programmed in my phone (along with both of my regular vets)...

I took a pet first aid course like Golden Gal did. I learned CPR as well. It's well worth taking if you find one in your area.

I have a kit. It's not that much different for dogs than for humans.

The most important thing I have is the number for the emgency vet, my vet (her home, cell and office numbers) and the poison control in my cell and on my Fridge....
