Hispanic group aims to stop 'wave of hate'?

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. 鈥?The nation's largest Hispanic advocacy group says it must come up with a strategy to combat "a wave of hate" its leaders say came from talk radio's efforts to sink the Senate's immigration bill.

"That had an extraordinary impact in the Senate, and as a nation, I don't think we should be comfortable with the fact that the United States Senate responded to what was largely a wave of hate," Cecilia Munoz, the National Council of La Raza's senior vice president for research, advocacy and legislation, told The Washington Times after meeting with NCLR affiliates to talk about a new strategy.

Question - Does this mean people against immigration are now racists ?

The Senate didn't respond to a wave of hate, it responded to the demands of its constituents, which is a real rarity.

I don't listen to talk radio and I did my part to pressure my Senators as much as possible to kill that rotten bill.

I don't take kindly to Senorita Munoz trying to tell me what to do.

I do not believe that people who are for controlled immigration are all racists....but you must admit it makes a good spin on the truth for all of the liberal and all of the uneducated.

What they're saying is, if you are for a SOVERIGN nation, you're a latino hating racist. If you believe this country should have borders and a border patrol, you're a racist.

They're all insane. My father entered this country legally and he is now proud to be an American.

La Raza is trying to spin what remotely could be considered a class issue into a race issue. In reality, it is at least 90% a criminal issue.

Not all of them but many are. I am Hispanic and firmly believe this is a major issue. I do not hate illegal immigrants. I believe that over the course of decades our government has failed in enforcing the law. The bottom line is that illegals would not be here if there was nothing here for them. I have seen first hand greedy white guys getting rich from hiring illegals. I have a test to determine if people truly hate criminals or if they are racist. If you hate illegals you should tenfold hate drunk drivers since they are knowingly attempting murder when they get behind the wheel. I have asked this question to many who state they hate illegal immigrants because they "break the law" but do not feel the same outrage to anyone legal or illegal that drives drunk.

I'm sick of Latin people with their skewed versions on racism and what not. Everybody has to earn their way in life, it cant just be given freely. Most Latin immigrants unlike other immigrants from Africa and Asia seem want a free ride and think all Americans should love them and be nice to them. Well I'm sorry but I dont work my butt off so you people can get a free ride and mooch off all the benefits of being in America while you step on our flag and walk all over the people living here.

Basically, they are saying it's alright if they don't like others of another race, but if we don't support them and believe everything they do, that we are racist. People like to use the term racist.

Honestly, this is such BS. The more they push on this issue, the more Americans are going to push back. All this talk about Aztlan, and illegal immigrants starting a war, etc. is just going to ruin it for the GOOD LEGAL immigrants from Mexico. Don't make the mistake of thinking you are in control, or that you can push us (American citizens) around. If you push us too far, you'll get a response and you won't like it, or be able to do anything about it. If you think the wages were low in Mexico before you came here, just imagine how low the wages will be when we ship back 20 million more people.

Yes here's where they got the idea that Americans - anti-illegal supporters are racists. Will you be silenced for their cause. I won't be silenced. Apparently calling patriots to this country 'racist' or 'xenophobe' isn't working for them to silence us or the debate. It has in fact only fueled it to the point where Americans are calling our Senators, and Congress members on the the mat over it. No it means people from groups like La Raza will call you a racist if you are against illegal immigration and amnesty legislation.

Due to the lack of pro-immigration folks being able to rationalize the fact that this is an issue of defending the laws of America - they flip out and start grasping for straws, and that straw is typically spinning the whole matter into an issue of race.

It is sad that Americans (of all colors, creeds, religions and backgrounds) are labeled as racist when they choose to defend the laws of their country.

It doesn't matter how you spell it out for them - they refuse to hear you and point their finger at you in ignorance.

What the majority do not realize is that this is not a feeling that Americans have against ONE SPECIFIC group of illegals - it is a feeling we have for ALL ILLEGALS, regardless where they are from or what "color" they are. If you are here illegally, and you are knowingly breaking the law, then you should be punished accordingly...actually, I would prefer that the US NOT waste my tax money on prosecuting them when they are popped by ICE or INS, but I don't mind my tax money being spent on getting them the hell out of the country and back to their native country - wherever that may be.

So we are labeled racists; what about this? I have friends of all colors and cultures who are all American citizens. Are my Latino and African-American friends racist too because they are anti-illegal immigration? Or is just my Caucasian friends who are American citizens?

EDIT: <fateridder>: this is an excellent question and a perfect picture of the utter irony of the arguement that pro-illegals bring to the table. It always gets turned into a RACE issue. And my last point; if America is SO FULL of racists, why the hell are illegals flocking here in such vast numbers? I sure as hell wouldn't want to feel unwanted in a country I moved to! Of course if I were to move to another country, I would at least try to do it legally and at the very least assimilate...but that is just what my family did 60 years ago...and my Grandfather died a PROUD American of Irish heritage. He did the right way and gave everything he could to this country while he was alive. I guess it comes down to who REALLY wants it and who just wants to make a mockery of it and cry foul...

Hearing illegal supporters and illegals screaming "racism" is really getting old. Really old.

Personally, I could care less what La Raza hs to say or thinks. I am a firm believer in following our laws and immigration policy as they are. That means deporting all illegal aliens and securing our borders by whatever means are necessary to stem the tide of illlegals coming into our country. We don't need them or want them and it has everything to do with the legal issues. Hate groups like La Raza just cemented my feeling on why they should be deported.

La Raza is a joke. Anybody who subscribes to their way of thinking is an idiot. They have no real argument. They have to make a scene to try and get people to pay attention to them.
