HELP ! i have swollen lymph nodes they have been there for years?

well i have contacted a doctor about it. he said it wasnt a big deal and my mom said it wasnt either but ive been researching on the internet and some people say it can be a sign of cancer or hiv/aids. iam a little worried. i use to have my hair braided and the lady that did it always pressed down hard.

- i think i got them from getting my hair braided and the lady pressing hard on the neck when she braided


- i had a docter actually come in and like search around and feel it and he presricbed antobiotics and said it no big deal.

If you are really, really worried about it (like, you are losing sleep over this) ask to be tested for anything it could possibly be.
I have a swollen lymph node that I didn't even REALISE was swollen until I saw a doctor for a physical. She touched it and asked if I had ever had chicken pox or anything like that. It was swollen from having that. If I had said no she probably would have tested me for cancer or aids like you said.

You may just be paranoid. Which would be the best-case-scenario ;)

If they麓ve been there for years, you probably shouldn麓t worry too much, but it麓s probably a good idea to have a Doctor look at them thouroughly.


You could check MD websites...I think there麓s one called ask MD or something like that.

It might be wens, Little unimportant swellings, or sabacious cysts..,neither of which is much to worry about. If the doctor has really checked for cancer, you shouldn麓t worry. but you should be comfortable that the doctor did a thourough exam.

I am not sure where the braids come in re: having swollen lymphnoids, but I'd say go to a Thyroid specialist.

the only way to tell for sure if it's anything to worry over is to get a biopsy, and if they've been there for years you will be hard pressed to find any doctor willing to biopsy lymph nodes that have been "swollen" for years. some nodes do their thing for years and then get a bit bigger but stay that way. they've done their job and are just kind of "burnt out".
Do you have any fevers, night sweats, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc? if not then i'd just try to ignore them or try to convince a doctor that they are causing you undue anxiety in an effort to get a biopsy. good luck.

Calm down. I have had swollen lymph nodes for decades. It stinks, but it isn't anything bad. It is just the way your body is designed.

HIV/AIDS can be contacted through saliva, sexual intercourse, and using needles. if you are practicing things likej this then better check a specialist. Laboratories can detect grown mass but check first to a specialist
