Damaged thumb ligament??

Yesterday i slipped down the stairs, and in falling bent my thumb right back. The pain is principally in the base of the thumb, and in the "web" between my thumb and forefinger. There is also a slight twinge in my wrist when i move the thumb. Yesterday i found it hard to make the "L" shape with my thumb and forefinger. Today the thumb is painfull to move. after research on the Net, the closest thing i could find was "skier's thumb". Does anyone with medical knowledge think it is that? My dad thinks i've damaged the ligament, and he has done his first aid course. Do i need to see a doc?? (bit of a problem, seeing as it's Sunday!) I've got it taped up with some sticky bandage stuff, and i put ice on it every 3-4 hours. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Tape it up, put ice on it and see a doc at the first opportunity. You will want to get an X-Ray to verify whether bones are broken or dislocated.

If damage is only to the ligaments then you will probably want to hold the thumb in a splint for some weeks to give it time to heal.

get an xray and follow up with an orthopedist.
