Discoloration on leather?

I am trying to research the process in which leather becomes discolored, possibly with chemical equations. Where should I go for research? Google isn't my friend anymore ( =/

Basically I want to know HOW leather gets discolored. I need aid with my quest for knowledge, thank you all.

I am trying to figure out what is it that causes discoloration in leather, so thats why I'm looking for formulas for leather and sunlight

Leather can become discoloured for several reasons. UV light can either fade the colour out of finished and unfinished leather (more noticeably on unfinished), this can be quite a dramatic change.

Dye transfer can alter the colour of leather by colour transference from things like cushions (especially suede), jeans and dark clothing, newspapers etc. This shows most obviously on pale coloured leathers.

Incorrect cleaning products could also change the colour of your leather in various ways, some more complex than others.

We can help on the reasons but I am not sure whether there are formulations for this. The SLTC (Soc. of Leather Technologists and Chemists) of which we are members may be able to help further with formulas.
