Vitamins, Kindney Pain, Change in Urine Consistancy/Color, Not Frequency?

My roommate recently purchased two forms of biotin and an iron supplement, as she is anemic. She started the supplements yesterday and today began to see a difference in her urine, it had become neon yellow/green. Her kidneys are now hurting and she's quit coffee/alcohol and started drinking more water to aid her kidneys in flushing out damaging substances. I believe this may be in part from an abrupt change in vitamin levels outside the realm of normal diet. I advised her to change the quantities of the vitamins for she was taking the recommended amount as on the bottle, which was sure to be hard on her system.

Should anyone have advice and/or suggestions to aiding my friend and roommate, please do so with provided MEDICAL EXPERIENCE and/or listed references on the topic that I WILL research as well. Answer with best intent, but provide VALID sources, I will look at them.

Sorry dear..... Not a 'pro' on this subject.... Truth is; no one here and not you nor her - can answer this query, as well-intentioned as it is. Part of my job is being a medical researcher, but I am always stymied because the 'latest' is actually 6 mos old - at least. Your query is best answered by a doc with access to the medical journal that arrived on his desk a day ago.... A change in the color of urine is not cause for a change in the treatment plan; but it is reportable to appropriate parties. Some kidney discomfort is not alarming, given the circumstances, but this attempt to self-treat (if it 'is' just that) is dubious at best. In short; I think your theory is correct, but I suspect your/her remedy is fraught with a mistake? Good luck :)

first i need to know the cause of anaemia in girls it is because of excessive menustrual loss followed by worms. i think she need only iron and nothing else but if she had her iron level checked it will be more scientific and stop taking all other vitamins

She should not take any more of those for now!! If the pain does not lessen soon or gets markedly worse you should take her to emergency room and have them evaluate her. If you do make sure you take all pills she has taken even antacids or motrin, etc. as well as the vitamin supplements!! It is possible to be allergic to any substance even ingredients used in vitamin supplements and allergic reactions can be very dangerous. Sometimes the air ways can swell closed! Make sure someone is keeping check on her tonight. Take her to ER right away is she gets worse! If she starts to feel better have her lay off the vitamins for a day or two and then try again with a smaller dose. If she has a reaction again she should talk to a doctor so they can figure out why and or what she is having a reaction to. It needs to be documented so that it will become a part of her medical history. Many drugs used by doctors and hospitals may have some of the same ingredients as the stuff your friend has taken and it may save her life some day to find out what she is allergic to now. How do you know that it is her kidneys that are hurting and not just unrelated stomach pain from something she ate or cramps from an upcoming menstrual cycle?? Urine can often change colors depending on what we have eaten without any ill affects. But no matter what it is better t be safe than sorry so if she doesn't get better she should see a doctor.
