How do I get car back?

My sister stole my car that has no liens and I am the only one on the title, she gave police false documents saying I owed her money, true I owe her 100.00. She took a check to the DA's office in which we were joint account holders, I just wrote it to her telling her sissy I could never repay you for what you have done for me, so keep this always and know that if I were rich this is what I would give you. She took it to the bank and acted like she tried to cash it,came closed account, because we closed it a month before.DA sent it back to her, telling her no go. Now they say it is a civil matter, and will not get my car back after they aided her in taking it, because they did not do the research to see who was the legal owner. I do not know what to do, I am old and need this car for doctors appointment as I am in poor health. What can I do, I cannot afford an attorney, as I am on social security.

I'm confused. If your sister stole your car, report it to the Police. Make sure you have your title when you call. If you know where the car is, let the Police know that too. She can not take your car because you owe her money.

Yes I have showed the title to the police and they still will not get it back for me telling me it is a civil matter, which I do not believe is correct. I believe it is stolen property as far as I am concerned. Report It

The law doesn't give your sister any right to take away your car without your consent.It is a crminal case .you should report it to the police of your area.

Did you show them the title? I don't see how that they can legally hold on to your car if you are the legal owner of it and owe no money on it. I would call the court house, and ask if they have a program for low income people to get a lawyer, I did and they gave me a list of lawyers that represent people at a lower cost than what it would cost to get a regular lawyer.
