Why do people hate famous obese people like Mario Batali? But not commoners who are obese?

I was trying to find info about Mario Batali for my health class, and came accross this blogger who was downright negative about him.

Why is it that in doing research on him, I find all these negative opinions? I am blind--I thought everyone liked him?

Someone tell me what i'm missing. Also is it true that he's not really italian because italian people do not have red hair? I am saddened, because my mario batalia image I held of him is seemingly crushed. Someone please mend this broken heart with clearity and refute all this negative bullshit i've been reading.

I think that the blogger just does not like fat or obese people. I know that since I finished my school and entered the working world I have seen this. I was young and a little overweight after school at 6' and 250. Since then, with a wife who loves to cook, a job that is sedentary and not an overly active life style, I have grown and expanded to 550 pounds in my early 30s. I love it. I enjoy my size and having others see my size when I walk around (much more slowly know and often referred to as a waddle). I can't go to movies or sports events with normal seats becuase I don't fit. I tried a movie (one of the new theaters) at about 450 and was stuck. Restaurants I still go to as long as there is not a booth seat - I have not fit in one of those since I weighed 350 at best. As long as there is a chair with no arm rests I am fine. I definitely notice that people watch me when I walk around a mall or in a restaurant to see what I do and how I eat. I just continue normally and enjoy the process and weight gain.

People are just mad jealous cuz they can't be rich like him and because he has his own show and they know he's gettin mad women cuz of that....or maybe they are jealous cuz they too are fat and wonder why they can't be like him. If he wasn't fat it's be because he has freckles, and if it wasn't that it'd be because of his interesting shoes. And no he's not I-talian he just studied in Italy.

It did not seem to me like the blogger hated him. It seemed more like the blogger was concerned about his health.

Also, I know several blond italians, but I do not know for sure whether he is Italian or not. I have to say however, that being a redhead does not rule out being Italian

Mmmm...lately, anyone can have red hair. My fiance is pure Venezuelan, and he has natural red hair. By the way, Mario is French and Italian.

Also, I know I like Mario Batali. I didn't know there were others who were so perturbed by him to write up a blog, but oh well. . .Don't worry about their opinions, they're free to have them.

I've found people in general are more negative towards obese people.

Just FYI - Many, many Italians, particularly from the North, have red hair. Whoever said they don't is an idiot.

Mario was born in Seattle to Italian immigrant parents.

Some folks will find anything to criticize - maybe it makes their own faults or sad lives seem less overwhelming. Celebrity or not, you can't please everyone.
