Why do students who come from more affluent families complain that they don't get any financial aid.? |
(This may sound like a rant) The only way I can go to school is through financial aid and I still have to have a full time job to make ends meets. I always hear richer kids complain about poorer kids getting a free ride, except that we had to go our entire lives with the disadvantages of being poor; from not being able to afford better clothes to having the electricity cut out because a bill couldn't be paid. I have a 3.8 GPA and, hopefully with the help of some of my professors and an independent research project, I will be applying for Ph.D programs in the fall. I know that some families who are in the middle income bracket sometimes gets screwed over (I've worked in the financial aid office of my university), but I say I worked damn hard and think it is fair that the government has given me the opportunity to try and better my life. Well good for you! I am one of those in the middle bracket who got screwed. I really am glad to see you are doing your best in school, because where I go, it seems like 1/2 the students who get financial aid don't even want to be there! They don't show up to class, don't study, and party all the time. Then you wonder where they went next semester and they are gone because they failed too many classes and couldn't get more money. (that was my little rant) But as for the rich people, they are used to having everything handed to them. I don't see why they care though, because their parents are probably paying for everything, including rent/food/entertainment money, so they don't even need to work! Honestly, I think they are used to money getting handed to them from their parents and are angry when they don't get it handed to them from the government, too. Spoiled brats... Perhaps they can't see it from your perspective. I'm glad to hear you're doing so well. Keep up the good work! I put me through school with no help from my parents but because they had money I couldn't get financial aid. just because the parents have it does not mean the children get it. some people will never understand how it is to not have money and to need. but they will never fully appreciate the things that they get. being poor is not a choice, but survival is a choice. |
