Why do some people on this site, say African Americans?.....?

1)should be thankful that they were slaves?
2)are ignorant?
first of all i think blacks shouldnt be thankful that we were slaves!..why, because we came over in slave boats, robbed of our land, families, culture, religion, and beaten and killed!then when we got here, they had our names changed( but still called *******)and our families got broken up and we were forced into Christianity. and Africa isn't the only country suffering from AIDS...I believe the United States has a little problem of their own. and africa is not the poorest country! do your research! and think about it....what if it was the other way around!! blacks did what whites did to us! i think no RACE shouldnt have the right to called another race ignorant and ghetto because of what their opinion is..and im not saying that some blacks arent ignorant and ghetto..because some are! every race has ignorant, ghetto people. go to a dictionary...under ignorant,it does not has a specific race/culture that is ignorant!

the answer is the word you told people to look up - ignorance. you're so right, it's in all humans. as long as there are humans there will be wrongdoings. all cultures/civilizations have their "skeletons in the closet". my fiance (who happens to be black) once mentioned that he heard the people of africa were completely peaceful before whites came to take them as slaves & teach them violence. however he heard wrong about that. there are african tribes that are very violent & there are those that are peaceful & there's those who live in the city just like us . . . but in life we never stop learning. don't you ever wish some people knew that humans began on one part of the earth & we all looked the same. we look different from eachother by region now due to millions of years of evolving to our climates. if we were all green, some of us would argue over which shade of green is the best - it's ridiculous. just keep on showing people by example that there are wonderful people of all races - i know i will.

No clue, but it does seem a lil rude though, u all are no different from us, just have different skin colors. So, people can just STFU & get over it.

africa is a continent, not a country. not all ancestors of blacks today got here as slaves. some came free and on their own accord.

Because they are racists. I am not black, I'm Asian but racism is stupid. In fact, they should be bowing down to you because the Human Race was born in africa according to science. So they are africans too. Second of all, Africa isnt a country. Some parts of Africa are very nice like south africa and kenya. The opinions of others sometimes are made without facts and are very biased and stupid. The rednecks who say such things probably don't know a thing about the world. People are just ignorant... White, black and everything else. Believe me, I went to a completely white country school (it was terrible) and there were plenty of redneck ghetto kids there with worse parents. No PERSON should have the right to categorize any race because of percentages. Agreed.

Every race that has been forced into slavery has risen to the top of the en-slavers, what are you waiting for? Blacks sold blacks into slavery, and the same tribal genocide that was around three hundred years ago is still going on today, do your homework.

Ok, first. African tribes, siezed other tribes and used them for slaves and traded them to slave traders. That being said. Blacks fight amongst themselves. If you find blacks that work hard and succeed in life and speak clearly, they get bashed by blacks for trying to be white. Darker blacks claim lighter blacks get treated better. Then they still complain about equal and civil rights, but yet on Sundays, they go to thier own churches. Now I don't know what you'd call all that, but it's all true.

You are right. Blacks shouldn't have to be thankful they are not slaves. That's like saying Jews should be thankful they aren't in concentration camps being killed anymore. People shouldn't do things like that to people. It's beyond horrible or inhumane...its disturbing that humans could be capable of such foul behavior and then go home and kiss their wife and pet their dog. And your point about what if blacks did that to whites is well taken. Sometimes we forget that it could have been us. I hate this part of history. But it is important for us to study and learn from, take to heart, and never forget.

We can't change the past, only learn from it. Being slaves has had a negative affect on our relationships, familial structure and our "togetherness" as a culture. However, we are a strong people regardless. Slavery has given us opportunities in America that some people would die for. We're here and we're making an impact in the country that we built.

I agree with you about a lot of stuff. As an educator, I use the term African American so that my students do not forget that they were brought over here as slaves. That their ancestors worked day in and day out for a better way of life because of the situations that they were placed in. Our generation and generations too come have so much influence and power, and they should use it. I always tell them to never forget where they came from.

Side note: Yahoo answer's has showcased some of the most racist people in the world! I was reading some questions posted earlier and the responses were outrageous. It's 2006. Get over it. Hispanics, Blacks (African Americans) and whomever else are here, and we're not leaving.

Native American's are the only people that "really belong" here...so don't forget that.

And I always believe if you're a white male, your "privledged" just for being born in America...

the term "African-Americans" is considered politically correct however it ia actually a rather demeaning term since its origins came about due to the 1990 national census when 2 white senators came up with the term so as not to say black. and who gives a **** about your color if your a good person your a good person

I agree with you. Of course there are people in every race that are uneducated and uncivilized, but there are even more that are decent and genuine people.

No one should be judged by their race, religion (or lack of one), gender, etc.-- But I'm idealistic like that.
