What was gay life like in the 1970's??

I'm currently in the middle of writing a research essay for my Ap Us history class about the gay rights movement of the 1970's. I've decided to write a page about each of the colors on The gay flag.
Red-Life
Orange-Healing
Yellow-Sun
Green Nature
Royal Blue- Harmony
Violet-Spirit
and black- Defeating Aids

any and all help you offer would be amazing and i'd be grateful for the rest of my life

Thanks

I'm also in APUSH...
This book might help you.

Gay liberation was an important social-justice movement precipitated by the spirit of the 1960s. In June 1970 more than five thousand gay men and women marched in Greenwich Village to celebrate the first anniversary of the Stonewall riot, a violent clash between New York City police and gay people at the Stonewall bar on Christopher Street. Each year in a growing number of cities, the Stonewall marchers called for "Gay Power" and "Gay Liberation," and their politics and consciousness transformed a small reform movement into a grassroots gay liberation crusade. Hundreds of gay rights organizations in American cities demanded legal reform, access to public services, and an end to discrimination. By 1973 the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders in response to lobbying by gay liberation groups

same as it is now except with big hair

it was hell. it was overindulgence. it made me the schizo i am today

firstly the 70's gay flag is a bit different than the one now, it had 7 stripes. Look up "Act Up" and "Queernation" for groups that started the gay movement. You can also rent a few 70's gay movies. They do exist. Look into the Stonewall riots as well, that was a huge step in gay visability.

I don't know where you got your information about the colors on the flag. I'm pretty sure the colors represent unity of all races and walks of life.

Don't know I was born in the '80s.

Similar but without condoms.
