I am running the 5km run in aid of cancer research in memory of my beloved nan who died from the awful disease 11 years ago. Any good fundraising ideas would be appreciated and if you want to sponsor me yourself then please go to:

Thanks very much! I do fundraisers using gourmet candles and bath products. This can be done by an individual or groups of any size and the profits are quite good. If you would like more info please email me laura.leahj@gmail.com Two years ago I trekked the Peruvian Andes for CRUK, here are a few of the ways I raised my sponsorship:
Carboot Sales - get everyone you know to donate anything they don't want. When you do the boot sale, display a poster explaining you are fundraising. You will find that some people will donate money if they don't want to buy anything. Check with carboot sales in your area, many let you have your pitch for free or at a discount rate if for charity.
Coffee mornings/girly evenings - do you know anyone that can do treatments such as manicures, facials that would be willing to offer their services for free? Get your mates round and ask them to donate to your fund for a treatment.
The Smartie Challenge - ask a local shop to donate a box of Smarties. Contact a local school and give the children of a class a tube of Smarties each. When they've eaten the Smarties, challenge them to fill the tubes with small coins. Offer a prize to the child who collects the most in their tube.
Raffles - many shops will be willing to donate prizes for raffles. Don't be disheartened when turned down though, many major shops will only support certain charities.
Collection pots - Contact CRUK who will possibly supply official charity boxes. Ask local business, friends work places, your local pub to keep the boxes in their establishment.
Auctions - surf the net for charity auctions. (Sorry but I can't remember any off the top of my head!) Some provide everything you need to hold an auction for items such as sort memorobilia. Race nights are also popular.
Fancy dress pub crawl - get your mates together, dress up and hit the town! Remember to ask permission before collecting money in pubs and carry proof that you are fundraising. CRUK sometimes issue photo ID cards.
Packing shopping in supermarkets - apply to major supermarkets in your area to pack shopping for their customers. The customers in turn will hopefully donate to your fund. Contact local Guides or Brownie groups to do it for you! This usually needs to be arranged well in advance as there is usually a waiting list to do this!
Non-school uniform day - ask a local school if they would participate. The children go to school in the clothes they wish and each pay a pound for the privaleage (be prepared to talk in an assembly though if asked!)
Ask friends/family to do small sponsored events - my aunt gave up chocolate for Lent and raised a fair bit for me.
Contact your local Rotary Club.
Get on your local radio and in the paper - the more people that know what you are doing the better!
Give sponsor forms to all your friends and family - even if you only get a couple of pounds on each it will all help!
Check local papers for events that you may be able to collect money at. I had a stall at a local Jazz festival selling goods I bought cheap in bulk on Ebay. I then went round the festival with a collection bucket.
Money Snake - get a local school to draw a 30m long wiggly line in their playground. The children then donate their coppers to complete a 30m long copper snake.
Lift toll - If you work in a building with a lift, for one day introduce a lift toll so anyone wishing to use it pays 拢1.
Guess the baby - Get all your collegues to bring in a photo of when they were babies. Then charge them 拢1 to guess who's who.
Look on www.cancerresearch.org for more ideas on their fundraising page. They have loads of ideas and will be more than willing to help in anyway they can.
Hope this helps. Good luck! xx |
