What were the first ever picture, sound and video transmitted across the Internet and who sent them?

I'm trying to find out about multimedia and the internet's development....so as much information as you can provide to aid my research would be appreciated.

(ANS) Joseph bear in mind that the internet is now 30years old as a technological phenomina. The internet has its roots in Amercian Academia & US military i.e. ArpaNet Project.

It was a way for academic's to share information & papers. From a US military point of view the www was seen as a way to provide command & control systems even if part part of the network was taken out in an attack (as in nuclear attack). Were talking end of the cold war area & all of the paranoia that went with it.

The first use of the internet was by "text only" browsers, so the sending & viewing of images like .jpeg files & sound files only came later on in the ealry 1980's. Video files & video streaming over the www only came in around the late 1980's.

**I'm sure there is alot of very detailled information on the history of the internet and begin's of images, audio & video. It's usually that the arrival of certain software technologies brough in the use of these things.
