Do you think it's possible that the Govt. invented AIDS as population control?

there's a lot of interesting literature out there, and i've done enough research to blow your mind with what i've discovered.

In a word, no. We can discover a virus, we can kill a virus, we can weaken a virus....but we definitely CANNOT create a virus.

I think the government created some of the diseases we have today, yes. Cancer could also be one of them. If I ever find out it's true, I'm moving to Mexico.

I am sure the government does plenty of things that they keep top secret; However I do not believe that they invented AIDS. AIDS is a disease, its an illness. It is caused by a virus. Any mad scientist will tell you that viruses (or is that viri?) are highly unstable and therefore unsuitable for use in evil plots. No, I would say, don't look the the government to either cause or cure AIDS.

no, AIDS has been around longer than people have been around. I just surfaced recently, that's all. It is barley putting a scratch in the population. It's not very effective at that. Aids is too hard to get for that. The only reason it works so well in Africa is that their behavior over there is perfect for its spread. It takes an average of 100 heterosexual contacts to get it, so sleeping around isn't a good way to spread it. In Africa most people have 2 significant others. They keep them for years and that makes the spread much more possible. This creates long chains of sexual relationships. If one person in the chain gets AIDS they all do over a few years.

I'm going to say no just because I can't fathom a government doing something like that. The mess created by introducing AIDS would far outstrip any perceived gain in population control. Population control is easy. Industrialize the country and provide education and access to birth control.

A more interesting question is whether AIDS was caused accidentally. Medical research gone awry. I would have little trouble believing that a transnational pharmaceutical company did medical research in Africa on subjects who maybe didn't know exactly what was going on.

Governments are notorious for exposing populations to terrible things--think of the poor guinea pigs at Britain's Porton Down chemical warfare lab exposed to, ahem, the common cold---in reality sarin. They were lied to and compensation was paid out fifty years too late when the evidence mounted to everest-like heights. However, there's scant evidence that AIDS was invented on purpose. Will this issue ever rest? No way....it's too good a story.

There might be a lot if interesting literature but unfortunately it can't be validated. It may quote sources but when you investigate further these sources either don't exist, are unreliable or have a vested interest in spreading conspiracy theories.

Don't be drawn into the conspiracy theories. At face value they may seem genuine but then the Nigerian 419 scams seem genuine when taken at face value.

There is absolutley no evidence whatsoever to suggest that AIDS was instigated by the government. And as a method of population control it's just about the worst scheme that anyone could come up with.

If you wanted to reduce a population then there are much simpler ways. Crop blight for example would devestate a harvest and bring about death through famine. It's quick, cheap, effective, selective, natural etc. As for AIDS being developed as a weapon - why when governments already have infinitely superior biological weapons and in any event, AIDS is a virus which wasn't something that could be created in a lab.

Sorry, but like all conspiracy theories, none of the arguments stand up to scrutiny.

I've read and heard what the conspiracist theories have to say about the subject, especially a report by an African Doctor regarding the evidence allegedly pointing towards the US Government being behind the development and release of AIDS and the HIV virus. Other than this document that I've read, there's no other explanation which describes what the origins of this virus is. But I would treat it as a skeptic would and will support the cause of finding a cure for it, irrespective of its origins. What we need is a cure, not a scapegoat.

Makes sense to me. People have done stupider things.
Although, I'm not sure about the motive. Most of the time governments want really large populations so they get fat tax cheques, and bigger retirement settlements.

I think the Government invented Aids as a weapon, and when testing something went way wrong. They weren't too concerned when the first bunch of people were infected with, but then it continued to spread like wild fire...At this point they probably felt they needed to cover it up. You know, when the Government makes a mistake, they can't let any of us know about it.

If it did, the Govt should have spent the time inventing a way to get this country out of debt.

Well titled as the government also played on as millions of people were sacrificed!!

I'm not sure it was just as plain as general population control as it was specific to certain populations or that it was even created by the government at all (not ruling it out though), however..... humanity was able to track it and had every chance to contain it and CHOSE not to!!! Those who oppose...feel free to acknowledge what the motivation may have been!!!
