Do you think Fred Phelps will wake up the world to the evils of...?

Intolerance, hate, bigotry, prejudice, and religious fanaticism?

Every time the Phelps clan (Klan?) holds a protest, it seems as if more and more people get the message that hate only leads to more hate. People who ignored him while he was just screaming against gays are waking up to how evil he is, now that he's harassing the families of deceased veterans.

When Phelps came to my university, the entire campus population of 14,000 agreed not to attend his hate rally, and instead, we held a love-march.

Also, the last time Phelps and his little gang of haters protested outside a local annual drag show, people called in pledges to donate money to AIDS research for every minute he stayed outside. A lovely drag queen would periodically announce a "thank you" to Phelps for how much money they'd helped to raise. Phelps left after about 14 minutes.

So, do you think Phelps and other haters like that will be a wake-up call for the religious zealots to turn away from hate and bigotry?

By the way, I will give ten points to the best answer. Spelling and grammar DO count!

Fred Phelps and co are scum, pure and simple, filled with hate, and need to be brought down a peg or two.

Good luck to anyone who shows the world what Westboro Baptist Church really stands for : bigotry, hate and prejudice. I fear though that the most "fundie" of the fundies out there quietly (or maybe not so quietly) agree with what it says. I would like to think they don't represent what mainstream Christians stand for but with the fundamentalist thread running though the USA, I'm not so sure sometimes.

I do think the Phelps are doing a grand job of uniting the world against their hate

I don't know who I despise more, the messenger Fred Phelps or the bible with its words.

I'm glad I live in the UK and don't have to deal with fanatics.

Many will always hate and fear others not like themselves.

I see hate and bigotry from Christians here everyday.

Only a real education will ever make ignorance and bigotry disappear.

Unfortunately, I doubt it. Generally, the people who agree with phelps aren't exactly easy to reach and very rarely wake up and say "oh! I'm a douchebag!"

I also doubt that phelps will awaken people to realize that the Bible is NOT a good book and, really, phelps is following the word of the Bible a LOT more closely than most people. In fact, if he were following it he'd go stone homosexuals to death rather than just be a cheerleader at their funerals.

I'm not saying this is right, i just think it's time for people to really examine the real problem here.

What an AWESOME story about the pledge drive for every minute Phelps and his group stood and protested! What a brilliant idea! That made me smile.

You should send that story to news organizations and radio stations so they can possibly do the same thing every time the Westboro jerks come to their state.
