It's Greed. The Aids appeal by Elton is because unlike what most gays say, Aids is a problem that mostly strikes gays or drug users. Showbiz is full of both.

They will do anything, and I mean ANYTHING for money.

I think that it is combination of greed and vanity.

Their agents ask them to do it. The money is a bonus, but most importantly it keeps them in the public eye, i.e. they don't get forgotten.

It's greed and vanity they will do anything to keep their faces in front of the public, they die without the constant veneration of the media.Let us see them give all the proceeds they make from adverts to children's charities, preferably to the hospices where children with terminal illnesses spend their last days.

Ads can pay huge amounts of money, for example an actor in an ad that is shown nationwide gets a residual payment every time that ad is shown on any station anywhere in the US. Radio too. Not to mention the extra media exposure.
