Did Huckabee state that homosexuals with aids should be quaranteened due to their lifestyle?

A coworker told me this yesterday. He supposedly said this when aids was first discovered/acknowledged and was still considered a "gay" disease. I tried researching this online and couldn't find any such quote/news report.

alanninn and Bob K, you must be very young. 1992 wasn't the Dark Ages. AIDS was first identified in the late 70s and by 1992 it was well known that it was transmitted by exchange of blood or other bodily fluids.

Yes, he most certainly did. However, he did not say they should have been quarantined because of their "lifestyle", he said they should have been quarantined because they were a health hazard to everyone else.

He said something to that effect. This was in the context that we didn't know a lot about how the disease was spread and he was slamming the way things were being handled, stating that people were putting political correctness over the health and welfare of the nation. He later stated that he wouldn't have said such a thing if we knew then what we know now.

Something he said 15+ years ago doesn't bother me as much as his choice for the Council to Foreign Relations position. Richard Haas is a long-time globalist who feels that America should give up it's sovereignty in order to comply with world legislation. That's scary stuff to me.

He did indeed. See above link. I am not as concerned with him saying this so many years ago when we were still studying the effects of AIDS, as I am his unwillingness to recant the statement and update his thinking on it. I think that says more than his actual statement so many years ago.

Yes he said that the carriers of the disease should be isolated from public. There is no ambiguity in that in thats statement. He thinks AIDS patients should be isolated. But what do you expect from a man that believes the federal government should prohibit you from smoking a cigarette and that it owns all wages you make.

he made this comment a few years back.the bad thing is, what if he still feels this way and becomes president.not everyone that has aids is gay.yet he says he;s a god fearing man.where;s his love for mankind.where;s his compassion for people.i don;t think he can be trusted as our president.he reminds me of those television preachers.they preach love for your follow man.but are really only interested in getting into your wallet.the elections are way off yet.maybe people will change their views of him before then.he;s another one that wants to change the world.by spending all your money on other nations other then his own.the American people should come first. not every country that sticks their hand out.

I'm watching your run up to the elections with bemusement.It's so strange to see the way 'making the other guy look bad' is an important part of the race.Things from 15 to 20 years ago get dragged up,relationships,dodgy relatives etc etc.Religion has definitely a huge part to play too in American Politics.It just seems like pointless distractions from the main issues.Do the candidates who manage to lay low the longest have the best chance as the rest get knocked out?
