I"m doing a research on why white people aided slaves in their escape to freedom?

so,if anyone knows where i can find information please say so,oh and i dont expect nobody to do my homework but i'm really stuck and i dont seem to find any information.I would also like to know of some books about it.THanx

OK. Well, using common sense, one reason might be that not all white people in the U.S. were slave-owning scumbags, and some of them actually *did* think blacks were their equals and even treated them like they were their equals.

There were probably also lots of Northerners who did not own slaves (since it was not possible to run plantations in the North due to the climate) and really didn't give a s.hit either way and just wanted the country to stay together in one piece.

so they too could be free, why else

I am sure some rabid liberals will be able to tell you how you are actually a racist, spreading lies, and how you should get your head straight.

But then again, they are rabid liberals.
