Hot NYC dance clubs of the mid-seventies, early eighties?

This may sound odd, but I am doing a research paper on the club scene in New York City during the height of the disco era, and before the AIDS crisis put a damper on all the fun. I need to get a list of some of the hottest clubs of the time (like the Paradise Garage, etc). Can anyone give me some names? Thanks a lot. Really appreciate it.

The best were Studio 54 and Xenon. You could also count Limelight, which was hugely popular when it opened in 1983.

Talked with a couple of friends and we remembered more ... Plato's Retreat, Le Jardin, Mudd Club, 82 Club, Max's. Think maybe Underground was around back then, as well.
