Which calming aid will help my dog the best?

I just adopted a 1 yr old beagle that has horrible separation anxeity. I have tried every tip that has been given to me. I am trying to research different calming aids that most pet stores offer. Any help would be great.

The best cure for separation anxiety? Don't leave your dog on its own. Off the shelf remedies eg DAP don't work.... don't waste your money.

My dog loves her crate...have you tried that? Also daily routine can really help calm your dog...its hard when you have an adopted dog...(especially cause people can only speculate about its past)

Dogs ususally exhibit seperation anxiety because they think you're not coming back... what you could do is leave the house, listen by the door to hear if the dog is whining, return in 5 minutes and give her a treat when she's calm- its really time consuming but the dog will get used to it.

They don't really work. I've tried the one that you plug into the wall and it leaves an awful mess around the plug. The natural homeopathic pills don't work either. The best calming aid is a long walk or brisk trot before you crate the dog with plenty of chew toys.

If her anxiety is severe enough that she is injuring herself or causing damage to your belongings when you are gone, she may need a prescription medication. Speak to your vet about this. There are a number of different medications that can be used.
