How much money is given out to students for financial aid?

i'm doing a research project and i want to know about how much money do UC schools give out each year for financial aid to students.

I didn't find a lot of information, and what I did find wasn't easy to track down - but - the PDF file that I've linked to below "Fact About the University of California: 2008" does contain this excerpt:

"UC students receive almost $2 billion in financial aid, including more than $1.1 billion in grants and scholarships, and two-thirds of UC students receive some kind of aid. The UC system enrolls a higher percentage of low-income (Pell Grant-eligible) students than any other top research university, public or private, across the nation."

I hope that helps! Good luck on your report!

I'll give you an idea. I get 10,000 that i will have to pay back and 10,000 i will not have to pay back every year. sounds like a lot but my tuition is 31,000 so i'm totally short 11,000. this does not include living expenses (like food, rent, internet, water, electric, clothing, etc) it also does not included things like health or car insurance or books for school. so the government while it is helpful the money you get from fafsa it is not nearly enough to even start covering your basis. also to get private loans is very hard if your in school full time and your parents can't sign for you. i have not worked in 4 years due to school (taking 18 credits at a time hoping to get it over with faster, including summer school) and i tried to get a private loan for my masters and they wont give it to me due to not having made 15,000 last year, so i'm kind of screwed. for my field i must go on before getting a job, and my parents can not financial sign for me. I can't wait till obamas work for tuition goes through maybe i will finally be able to pay for college
