Do you agree with Governor Palin that fruit fly research is a waste of taxpayers money?

She said that they planned to increase aid to children with special needs by stopping spending on other things and she used fruit fly research as an example of wasteful spending.

First of all, this is what Palin said:

"Where does a lot of that earmark money end up anyway? [鈥 You鈥檝e heard about some of these pet projects they really don鈥檛 make a whole lot of sense and sometimes these dollars go to projects that have little or nothing to do with the public good. Things like fruit fly research in Paris, France. I kid you not."

Genes that are affected by a widely prescribed drug known to cause birth defects have been identified using fruit flies. Studying fruit flies is actually revolutionizing the way birth defects are studied, so she of all people-a mother of a child with a major birth defect-should be grateful for fruit fly research. Diabetes, heart formation, links to autism, and COUNTLESS other medical issues have been and are being studied successfully using fruit flies. They are invaluable resources.

Too bad she's more concerned with looking pretty and trying to make jokes in her speeches than making real sense. She needs to do research on the things that come flying out of her mouth before she goes and bashes some very important scientific processes.

SHE WANTS TO MAKE PEOPLE THINKS THAT SHE'S KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON IN DEEP POLITIC, AND SAID WHATEVER COME TO MIND. It is like talking to your next door neighbor about an ordinary day. Like I said before in on answer : What exatly She can do for most elderly that the system has forgotten that are living on ($400)
a month and ($10) worth of food stamps?

Tell me what part of the Constitution of the United States allows the federal government to force taxpayers to pay for any "research". Since there is nothing that allows it, it is prohibited. This applies to medical research in all areas.

She contridicted herself didn't she, considering fruit fly research has helped children with special needs. Either she didn't bother to check out the facts, or she thought it sounded good.

Why are we still talking about her? She's irrelevant and her blatherings about any subject matter other than pagentry shouldn't be taken seriously.
