Can we all agree we should wean ourselves from both foreign and domestic oil?

..and develop alternative resources to fuel and heat our homes, cars and aid in the manufacture of products?

What do you believe is the best alternative energy source that the new administration should invest its resources toward researching?

Fusion power. It's decades away, but I have faith that it's going to change the world. That combined with fuel cells could take care of all of our energy needs.

We should at least wean ourselves to the level of foreign oil that we were before Clinton, which was about 30% rather then the higher than 60% we have been at since he was in office. We should also consider the need for updated refineries outside of the gulf region. Wind energy has been shot down because bird may fly into the turbines and be killed, nuclear is still being deemed too unsafe, and water can damage the body of water it is attached to. Yes we need to develop alternative sources, but at the same time develop to sources we have. Remember there is no reason we do not have cars and SUVs that get higher than 30 MPG other than greed. Do I think the only or major sources of funding should come from the government, no, as many of the sources have already been developed but cannot be used because someone has convinced congress about all the unsafe features of each type of alternative. So to answer your question, until you remove the major tangle of red tape and make other sources less invasive and expensive, little will be done unless it is on the backs of the taxpayers. And just another though, do you know what products are made from oil byproducts? you may want to research that is well, there is no way we will remove our dependance on oil any time soon when we use so much plastic and rubber type products, you know like the tires on your car, the bag you carry things in, just to name a few.

We should get off of Oil in general. If for 20 years you set corporate tax to 20% for all profits from Vehicles under 20,000 dollars that do not have any combustion components and allow all expenses in their development and manufacturing to be written off..... every car company on this planet would stop producing consumer gas based vehicles within 10 years and would flood the world with Electric and Solar powered cars that would cost a few hundred dollars to make/ship and could be sold to the consumer for the same prices as a high-end computer.

There is no alternative energy source that can even come close to replacing fossil fuels.
Conservation is great, but does not even account for the increased demand for energy.

People must stop looking at inside the house and outside as two different dimensions...there is no such thing is Not natural vs. natural things. Unless people are getting their base products from another universe or something...EVERYTHING is natural.

We will never need zero oil. Oil goes in your engine and transmission no matter what fuel you burn. If you drive on a black top road or parking lot that came from oil. If you use plastic, synthetic material, or synthetic rubber tires or other rubber products they come from oil. If you just stopped using oil now What would you burn? What would you roll on? What would you lubricate with? How many products do you use that are made from plastic?

We need every alternative energy source but we can't just eliminate oil. Most people won't be able to afford a new car for alternative energy and there are no used ones. The oil we keep should be domestic oil for national security and economic reasons. It is time to wake up and leave the pipe dream of an oil free society behind. For the immediate future it is highly impractical. There are no hydrogen cars available for less than $50,000.00. There are few ethanol oriented engines and there are no practical electric cars available. If I had an electric car I wouldn't have a place to plug it in. If I had a CNG car I wouldn't have a place to install a home fill up unit. CNG conversions are to expensive to put in my 10 year old car and they add to the weight of the car. We can't just wish and dream this problem away. Oil will have to be here for a while and it would be better for us if it were our own.

Does anyone here know that oil is used for more than fuel,most of the oil used is for many other things,so if you want to do without about 65% of what you use and or have then yes we can.If you want to go back and live in a cave we will never be completely free from fossil fuels regardless of what they say so no we can't all agree.

Agree...probably a combination...solar, wind, bio-fuels...and above all more fuel efficient autos...preferably made in the USA. I think they should research all types of energy...and go to other countries that have weaned themselves off of fossil fuels...

yep, oil is oil. let's find something that we can create on our own that's clean and renewable. If we spent all of the money of the war on research of solar and wind technology, we'd be self-sufficient.
