Planning on going to college in london :] Need help...?

I'm planning on going to the Le Cordon Bleu in london for Culinary arts within the next year. I've been researching on this school for awhile, and i saw that this school doesn't have dorms but we have to find a place to live. They said on the site that we are able to rent a Flat?!?. What i don't understand is that how i'm i suppose to pay rent while i'm also going to school? Can i apply for financial aid in the US for that school? How am i suppose to work if i'm going to school?

Ahh, i'm about to lose my mind. I called the school but they really didn't help me very much on understanding what i'm suppose to do.

BTW: i live in the US.

A lot of university students in the UK use a 'student loan' to help them with tuition fees, living costs, etc. I'm not sure how this works for international students but I'm sure they will be able to give you some good advice. It would also be worth researching financial aid in the US, as you mentioned, to see if they can help with the costs of studying abroad.

As for renting a flat, it's very unlikely you would be able to afford a flat on your own so your best options are: a) flatshares and b) student accomodation / halls of residence (dorms).

a) Flatshares: Sharing a flat with other students is a great way of saving money and meeting new people. You will be able to live in central London, whereas if you were paying for a flat for yourself you would have to live further out where it is cheaper. Have a look at the flatshares on offer to get an idea of what to expect. Make sure bills are included in the rent so you don't end up with extra costs.

b) Student accomodation / halls of residence (dorms). Some of London's halls of residence are open to all students, not just those from a particular university. For example, the buildings run by UNITE are like dorms as you pay for a room (with a shower) and then share common space and kitchens. It's a good way to meet other students and it means that you don't have to worry about stuff breaking as there is an on-site caretaker.

There are lots of these sort of buildings in central London, so I'm sure you can find one near Marylebone (where Le Cordon Bleu is located). Check out this list and compare the prices and locations:

Good luck and enjoy your time in London. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask :)
