How much should I research about a college i am going to an entrance interview for?

I have to go to a college entrance interview about...oh, 12 hours from now (and I'm still awake...). I didn't really study all that much about the school, only the basics, like costs, percent of financial aid, brief history, etc. If prodded, I would have a really hard time going into detail on all that.

So, how detailed should my knowledge of the college be for an entrance interview?

They're not going to quiz you on how many students attend, the date of its founding and the name of the new wing on the science building. They're more interested in finding out more about you, what kind of student you are, your interests, your goals, and why you think you're a good fit for their school.

So the kinds of things that will be helpful to know have more to do with your plans, goals, preferences. How does the school sell itself and how does that appeal to you? Do you like that it's a liberal arts college with small class sizes and a close-knit community / a research institution whose professors are doing cutting-edge research at the top of their fields, etc.? What major do you want to pursue, and what do you like about that school's department in that subject? The courses it offers? Its ranking? What unique opportunities does the school offer? Do you see yourself studying abroad? Joining the honors program? Sports or student organizations?

Look up things about the school that interest you--not boring old statistics and data--and be prepared to mention some of the things you like about the school and ask questions about things you couldn't find information on.

Anything you can helps, particularly in your area of study. If you can name any of the professors, any of your friends that go there, any recommendations you received from alumni, or any of the research going on there...you have to show them that you're genuinely interested in THEIR school, not just any school!
