Opinions on my idea to cut federal spending?

Do you think we might start by winding down the U.S. military? Does the U.S. really need enough fire power to turn the planet into Kibble, and enough manpower to maintain a presence in over 100 countries? Doesn't the current U.S. military budget, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:U.S._D... make the Bush and Obama Wall St. and auto industry bailouts look like chump change? Doesn't this kind of budget pretty much guarantee that the U.S. will be constantly engaged in ever escalating levels of warfare around the world? If people are looking to cut government spending do you think we might be able to squeeze a few bucks out of there somewhere? I'm not talking about any veterans benefits or body armor btw, but slowing down on the front end. Less recruiting, shrinking the numbers, improving diplomacy and humanitarian aid functions, getting rid of all nukes, nuclear (no President could ever say the word right anyway) research and manufacturing facilities and related technologies, killer robots...like that.

The constitution calls for funding of the military, a judicial system, and the maintenance of interstate commerce.

I'd start by cutting the non-constitutional items first, then possibly reducing spending elsewhere as necessary.

Uhhh, the military is one of the few legitimate functions of government so no. Start with the "Departments Of" Walk in there with a box full of pink slips and just start handing them out left and right. Sell the real estate to the highest bidder. There's a great start.

You have some ethical ideas but the US cares nothing for the people and cares everything about having the best defence mechanism the world has ever seen. And they tell us that 'terrorists' are the problem.

End socialism. Spread free speech and free press so that we aren't facing people that have poor information who want to kill us.

Sadly, we need a national defense. Not everyone is going to play ball with us.
