St. John's Wort to aid effects of Paxil withdrawal? Any other natural methods?

I've been taking SSRI anti-depressants for 7 years now, and become to realize that it has literally taken over my life.

I've tried lowering my doses (pill splitting) and quitting cold turkey (couldn't make it more than 3 days).

Are there any natural or better methods for helping ease the pain of physical withdrawals? Does St. John Wort aid in some emotional withdrawals?

I've been wanting to quit for years, but like most people, couldn't bear the side effects. I'm just beginning to research other methods, so I would love any feedback..or even personal stories.

Its good to feel like you're not alone!

I tried to wean off Paxil a few times and couldn't do it.

I tried taking St. John's Wort and it gave me horrible stomach aches and diarrhea. It was much worse than Paxil. The only withdrawal symptom I had from Paxil was a mild headache and a funny tingling sensation in my face and hands.

I'm okay with sticking to the medication now. I don't see anything wrong with taking it for the rest of my life if necessary.

What's so bad about it?

You shouldn't try to quit taking medication without a doctor's advice.

You should NEVER be doing this without the help of a Psychiatrist or a family Dr. Withdrawing from Paxil can be dangerous and the side effects can be worse than you can imagine. You honestly need to be under the supervision of a Dr. in order to this. Coming off Paxil is not an easy thing to do, especially considering the length of time you have been on the drug. Simply tell the Dr. you are going off the drug and you are "refusing" to take it and want to be "weaned" off it. Doing it yourself is simply too dangerous.
Peace, Love & Happiness

Ok I am not a dor but I got off of paxil by switching to prozac for 2 weeks. I told my doctor I wanted to switch meds so he put me on Prozac. I then stopped Paxil cold turkey and just took Prozac. I didnt even get the brain zaps you get when you try to get off alone. then in 2 weeks I stopped the prozac. Since you cannot get addicted to Prozac in just 2 weeks I had no side affects at all when I stopped taking it.
hope this helps It really did help me!
