My new kitty has distemper. any advice? |
lily is an 11 week old little calico. she went to the vet yesterday because of mild symptoms of distemper. she is currently on an antibiotic. she is eating boiled chicken and yogurt and still drinking on her own. she has had no vomiting, just diaharrea, sneezes that come and go, sluggishness, and a fever while at the vet. i am watching her closely and making sure she eats and drinks plenty. also laying a cold cloth around her several times a day to aid in reducing fever. any advice or success stories? i need a pep talk!! You are doing all of the right things. What did the vet say? Keep taking care of her like you are. You are doing a great job!! And you are showing a lot of dedication for your baby! I wish I had a success story. I had a kitten with distemper and she was in the vet's office and they did everything for her and she ended up dying. Such a cute and intelligent kitten too. :( Kill her! I hate cats....Just kidding!!! Just keep following the doctors orders. It sounds like you may have cuaght it early enough. My friends had two dogs, one passed from distemper (even with treatment) but the other was caught in the early stages and lived and is just fine. Hopefully you caught it early! You did good taking her to the vet! Good Luck. Just give her lots of love now. i've only read about distemper so all i know is make sure you follow up regularly with your vet and if she shows any signs of getting worse get here there immediately. you may want to ask your vet about a good 24 hr clinic just in case you might need one. it sounds like you are doing everything you can for her just be patient and vigilant over her. talk to her a lot and make her as comofortable as possible. good luck and i hope lily is better! there is a lot of good info on this web site Make her a bed some place quiet.when cats are sick they like quiet dark places.keep her cool, make sure she drinks plenty of water, and give her the meds, and she will be just fine.think of it has taking care of a sick infant, hold her and love her. and when she is well, she will remember all that you done and be your best friend dont take too much advice from people here because its your vet who knows exactly what is going on with her... ~~ sorry to hear about your kitty, i say a prayer for you and your kitty too...try the links below for info on distemper ~~ |
