How do you feel about medical marijuana?

Does your religion affect how you look at it?

To be clear, I mean, when people use marijuana as a medicine (not overuse, just to ease their symptoms) for illnesses ranging from cancer/AIDS patients who use it to ease their nausea so they can eat to people with stress who use it to relax so they don't develop high blood pressure or have a heart attack, to people who use it for pain, such as those with fibromialgia.(sp)

I know many Christians who think it is bad because it is against the law, but black using white people water fountains once was too.
And God never said it was bad. He said all the plants were good, and were for our use. And using it as medicine is not abuse- if it works, and God made it that way, why not? Why poisen your body with pharmeceuticals?

I think that passing legislation restricting the use of a plant is ridiculous. There are plenty of harmful plants that will kill a person if they were smoked or eaten; why aren't these illegal? So, marijuana produces euphoric states of consciousness, is this any different than drinking alcohol? I often wonder why altered states of consciousness are so taboo in society. I think that the discussion of medical marijuana would be less heated if it was understood that people have what is called personal freedom and privacy; and that people should be left to do what they want to do in the privacy of their own homes as long as it does not hurt someone else.

I'm glad I live in CA, where you get a bigger fine for running a red light than you do for posession - regardless of whether you have a doctor's "permission."

How is it administered?

If it's smoked, I am opposed to it.

As a former smoker, I don't see how the benefits can outweigh the damage done by smoking it.

My religion is staunchly anti-recreational-drug.

There are other meds available which can aid the suffering.

I base my view on reason, there used to be a "clinic" across the street from my apartment complex that provided "medical marijuana" to so-called "patients", the most healthy young and robust strapping men I have even seen. I never saw a "patient" ever arrive in a wheel chair, an ambulance, on crutches, or on a stretcher. They even RAN quite sprintfully across the street. The whole thing was a sham.

The problem with marijuana is that it is smoked which has little effect other than for its hallucinogenic qualities. If it were condensed as an oil and mixed with butter or some other substance and used in a medical manner, I see few problems developing. However, the prevalence with which it is abused creates what I deem reasonable concern and I can understand why there is a law against it. It creates more problems than it solves due to the high level of usage as a recreational drug.

EDIT - I don't think you understand, I am in agreement. I think that the studies done on it have been biased for the most part, very few have been truly scientific - most have been based on smoking it. Of course it is ineffective when smoked, unless you want hallucinations.

I think it hasn't been given a fair chance - and this is further evidence to me that scientists can be bought and sold (e.g. macro-evolution)

I think a person who is old enough to vote and go to war should have the right to do whatever the hell they want if it doesn't hurt others.
The only people who have died from marijuana are the ones who were SHOT by the cops.
