Could this be Munchausen Syndrome?

I am wondering if a friend of mine has Munchausen's based on some of these "symptoms"?

- He brings up a brother who committed suicide two years ago very often... but in all of his family pictures there is nobody who could possibly be his brother, and he has told different people different stories about how his brother died

- He says he attempted suicide and went to a psychiatric ward last year, and brought it up right when one of his friends attempted suicide and may have had to go to a psychiatric ward

- He has had an aids and herpes "scare" and says he takes medication for having an unstable mind

- He fabricates stories often and fights for attention and sympathy

- His older sister is legitimately insane and has several disorders.

He's 15 years old, I don't know if that makes a difference...

and if it really sounds like Munchausen Syndrome, what do we do? please help!

It sound like the whole family had or has mental problems. Only a professional can made a call like Munchhausen's Disease. Unless the family wants help no one from the outside can intervene. Perhaps you can talk to a family member who is responsible for the other's welfare. Good luck.

My friend has that illness.It really doesnt sound like it. sounds like he is just a compulsive liar. Ive got a few friends like that too.
