Could I have schizophrenia?

I am a 15-year-old boy, who according to my friends is paranoid, has delusions and detachment from reality. I hear voices, but I attribute it to memory, I have a good auditive memory. I don't hear people talking to me or anything. i also hear some fan noises, that I say come from the projectors in class, but my friends don't here them, but one of my friends had a hearing aid, the other is quite distracted and the other can't hear sounds over a certain decibel level lower than most.

I don't think I have Schizophrenia. But I have a list of the symptoms written on my wall, hidden behind a bulletin board in my room so no one will see it, could that be psychosis?

Friends can't diagnose schizophrenia; neither can you. Only a qualified psychiatrist can do so. Putting the symptoms of schizophrenia in a secret place won't help you find out if anything is wrong with you. I don't think anything is wrong with you; you have only the normal teen adjustment problems.

Schizophrenia is probably the most misunderstood of the mental disorders. It is not a single disease but a spectrum of disorders. It does not develop but strikes suddenly with out warning as if you were struck by a bolt of lightning. There is no known cause and no known cure. It seems to go away with old age.

The only way to make sure is to be examined by a psychiatrist. You may want to do that, just to set your mind at ease. And, on the off chance you are in the early stages, you can begin treatment - the earlier the better.

I doubt that you do - but it never hurts to make sure :-)

Stay away from "street drugs" - they can and will cause a psychosis to develop. Check this out:
