John Wilkes Booth actually escaped?

How will this change history if true?

two local Booth family descendants - Joanne Hulme of Philadelphia's Kensington section, and her sister, Virginia Kline of Warminster - aren't convinced.

They think that another man was killed and that Booth, who they believe was the president's assassin, lived to a ripe old age.

Aided by Booth historians, researchers and scientists, the sisters may now be on the threshold of proving their theory through DNA tests.

(sounds reasonable to me, could help settle things)

It would be difficult to prove anything with DNA in this case as there would not be any useable DNA left on a body that has been buried for 100+ years nor any DNA sample to match it to.

John Wilkes Booth did escape for about a day. The Union army caught him in a barn in a barn in Virgina. He would not come out so the army officials caught the barn on fire. He then came out. He was burned extremely bad but his face was untouched. Several people identified him (including his sister). So he did escape for a day then he was caught and killed.

He was shot dead.
