Has anyone ever had this problem???

when my baby was born i was told that they couldnt get a hearing test done cause she was moveing around too much...later on down the road at about 1 1/2 she had anouther test done..this time they said she has " mild " hearing loss in one ear and they said they couldnt get a " proper" reading cause there was too much stuff in her ear..... has anyone ever been told this and the baby turned out fine??? im kinda worried i donr want her growing up with a hearing aid......i should mention that she has hypothyroidism ( dont know if that whould have anything to do with it )

My third baby failed two hearing tests in his left ear before taking him home from the hospital. He had another test at one week and failed that one, too. He had yet another at four months and was fine. They told me there was just too much gunk in his ear for a proper reading.

Growing up with a hearing aid is a lot better than not being able to hear and socialize with her peers (it will also affect speech). Get a referral to a specialist and don't stop until they get a "proper" read.

Give her a warm bath, qtip out her ears (be gentle), and take her back in to have her hearing checked.

Most adults have some mild hearing loss. We listen to movies, music, and tv louder than we should, are in large loud groups of people like parties, clubs, live sporting events, and the tiny break room at lunch. Often we have multiple sources of noise at once like the tv, a phone conversation, and screaming, crying kids. Also, road noise is ridiculously loud. Add a radio to that, and you're exposing yourself to more decibles of noise than is safe for your ears.

If your daughter just has a slight hearing loss chances are she will be fine. Either way, it isn't something you can reverse. You can keep her away from overwhelming noise, but if she ends up needing a hearing aid there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Really they aren't bad, nor do they have to be big and bulky.

No, her hypothyroidism really won't have anything to do with it. The thyroid is a gland in the neck, so I suppose that if it were extremely swollen it could temporarily cause hearing problems, but the two really aren't connected at all.
