Nurse's Aids/PCA's...?

...where did you complete your nurse's aid training? I would like to get a job as a patient care assistant at Children's Hospital while i'm going to college to become an RN. I know that I can take a course at my college that will allow me to take the test and become certified, but i've tried to get into that class 3 quarters in a row and failed because the waiting list is just too long. Are their other places that offer training? My mom was a nurse's aid 10 years or so ago at a hospice center and they trained her there, but they don't do it anymore. I am in central Ohio, if you know any place specific to my area that would be wonderful.

call the children's center and ask if they recommend a place in your area. I received my training for CPA training at a nursing home where I was going to work. Then they sent me to take the state test at a local Jr college....if that does not work, try the employment office..they should be able to tell you...

Convalescent homes .. sometimes train .

most nursing homes have training classes available
many are paid for by medicare, these programs are not offered (with medicare subsidies) anyplace else. generally the cost is free or just the cost of materials since medicare reimburses the nursing homes expenses. the catch is they may require you to commit to short term employment or if you don't they may still allow you to take the class but not pay for your licensing exam and skills testing(depending on the state $50.00-$100.00)which you can pay for yourself. to become a licensed CNA trained through a nursing home only requires 75 hours 40 hours of classroom and 35 hours clinical.
