Blood tests and AIDS question?

Recently up North in Gateshead there was an incident with a Zimbabwean who attacked a police officer (bit him on the head) this Zimbabwean had apparently been thought to have AIDS.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/...

I was reading the paper yesterday and it slates it takes 3 months to get the results of a bloods test for AIDS.

So my question is that if you want to donate blood and go for a test to make sure your able to give blood and have the all clear. Bare in mind it takes 3 months to get the results back. How do they go about this??

As in it takes 3 months for the virus to show, so how do they know that in that 3 months of waiting for the results you haven't have sexual intercourse in that time with an AIDS carrier because lets face it in this day and age it's more common now to find all kinds of ethnic groups have it. Not just as most people assume- Africans.

P.S. I hope I've not complicated it for you! LOL

Thanks Ivan! Just to make it clear I don't have HIV or AIDS.

Hello,

(ANS) No.1 HIV & Aids can only be caught from direct exchange of bodily fluids, this specifically means blood, sperm or semen, or virginal fluids.

No.2 Even if a person has HIV or AID's i.e. is infected & is a carrier and they bit another person. The person bitten is almost zero risk of catching the infection. HIV & AID's are NOT (repeat NOT) present in the infected persons saliva, its not transmissible from kissing or mouth to mouth contact. Only if blood or semen etc are exchanged.

No.3 YES! a single blood test wont give you an instant answer to if a person has HIV or AIDS. This is because as you have already mentioned it can take at least x3 months or more for the anti bodies for HIV to show up.

No.4 If a person is suspected of having HIV or AIDS my guess is that the blood donation service wont take blood or use blood until it has been proven to be free of any kind of infection. The blood transfusion service are extremely careful on this point due to the legal implications if they were to get it wrong.

No.5 The answer is nobody will know until you are honest and tell them. But its your choice? NOT being honest could have terrible consequences for others though so bear that in mind.

i.e. that you had sex with someone recently & you don't know their HIV status. Surely if you have any concern for yourself & for others you would be honest and speak the truth about this matter?

Hope that helps?

Kind Regards Ivan

Three months! That is terrible! He'd better keep himself to himself until he finds out.

But it would be useful to know if he can transmit HIV before it is detectable in a blood sample.

It also goes to show that letting the black Zimbabweans into the UK while they are throwing the whites out of Zim is ridiculous. Just because they've kakked up their country - which they wanted us out of so badly - does that give them the right to follow us all around and kak up every country we're in?
