I have had a series of surgeries &found out that I am pregnant. I am 5 mos. will the anasthesia cause defects?

I have had two serious surgeries and now have a temporary colostomy. I thought the weight gain and tender breasts were all a part of the medical condition. I have had anasthesia, pain killers, sleep aids, and no prenatal care. I am terrified for the health of the baby. I was gaining weight so I didn't eat properly and I feel that I have really neglected to take care of myself let alone, a baby. Is there a chance that this baby could be ok? Are there tests that can determine if there are permanent birth defects? I am so scared... I think that with my own health condition, I won't be able to carry full term. But that isn't my big concern. The biggest area of concern is the babies health. Any insight????

Did you have the surgeries while you were pregnant, or have you found out since then? Cause I know last time I went in for surgery I was tested to see if I was pregnant, and the time before that, the same thing. They always tell me right before as they are explaining what is going to happen "and oh..by the way you aren't pregnant" because it's a precaution they have to take.

You need to talk to your doctors that performed the surgeries, as well as talk to a high risk ob/gyn to help you with what is going on. That is if you are real.

My advice to you is to be diligent on seeing a doctor as soon as possible. I'm not a medical professional so I'm in no position to give you medical advice.

I will say this that your concern for the well being of you child is great and with good thoughts and a good doc I'm sure everything will work out just how it was meant to be!!!

You really need to make an appointment and take your concerns to the doctor. There is a very good chance that you could go on to have a perfectly healthy baby if you start taking care of yourself now. There are many tests that could be used but for now make an appointment ASAP. Good Luck

go see a doctor. and it's never too late to start caring for yourself and the baby. start eating healthy, and take the prenatal. but go see a doctor as soon as possible. The doctor might want to run some test.

I would definitely go to the DR asap and bring your medical records! Honestly there is a chance the baby could be fine, unfortunatnly people addicted to things like meth have babies all the time and they come out addicted to drugs but without massive defects so definitely dont give up! ( And by the last sentance I am definitely not condoning drugs while pregnent, just stating that it happens) But you never ment to subject the baby to any of the drugs. If you could I would cut back on things like pain killers and sleep aids, start taking the prenatals immediatly ( they will be good for your health too) and go to the DR asap! They will be able to look into anything that could have affected the baby and run tests let you know. But there is a good chance that everything could be good and your baby heathly.
