Any Veterinarians in the house? Cat skin problems? |
My cat started getting little sores on his head, I thought he got bit by my other cat because it's happened before and it looked just like it. He started scratching them and it spread and got bigger. Then the other day he was licking the inside of his legs and I saw that they looked all raw and horrid. I did some research online, and it looked like mange, loss of hair, sores..etc. He has a healthy appetite and acts normal. Well, I took him to the Vet today and when he saw the cat he automatically thought it was Feline Lukemia or Feline AIDS. He did the test and it came up negative. He still thinks it's an auto immune disease but I don't have the funds for biopsy, so to help me out for now he gave the cat a shot of cortizone and 2 different kinds of antibiotics, one for infection and bacterial. I am so distraught right now. I love that cat like it's my kid. If a cat does have an auto immune disease, can it still live or do they just put them down. I didnt even ask the Vet these questions because I was so upset, now I'm just in a state of shock and confusion. A negative in house test for FelV/FIV doesnt not completely rule out these diseases, because they could be currently in the bone marrow only (which would make sense with the situation you described). Only a bone marrow aspirate would rule these out. As for now, steriods and antitbiotics are the appropriate treatment, if his blood counts drop too low, your vet may consider using a blood transfusion. The fact that he is still eating and drinking is a good sign. You may already know this, but both of these disease make your kitty prone to infections that are more severe than they would be in a healthy cat, so typically a stronger antibiotic is used for a longer period of time than would be normal. It is also important to isolate him from other cats, and if you are not already, keep him indoors. sorry i can`t help,,but beautifull kitty..... heck,,your not so bad either ???????? lol....wishing you and kitty all the best...鈾?/div> some cats have very sensitive skins,just like humans when we have allergic reactions..justth sensitive skin can make it .. a flea on a cat with sensitive skin will make go crazy with licking and biting itself,also when they have teething problems they tend to lick a lot at them selves,its their way of taking there minds of one problem but dont realise they are causing others..if the vet has given the cat an injection then it should calm its skin down,dont get upset all allergies can be treated,and a vet wont put a healthy cat down...if it has a allergy like mine she has to go every month for a cause of injections.plis she has thyroid trouble which is an enlarged heart..i have to give her 2 tablets a day..she as well has she can be..so please dont get to upset and no they wont just put her to sleep.. |
