Can i appeal against police decision to refuse me as a cop?

basically i wear two hearing aids, which work great i can hear as good as an average male. but the police doctor has gone on the results of my hearing test ie without my hearing aids and said im below the cutoff for hearing for both ears and for that reason im a risk. BUT i didnt relise it at the time but it doesnt have anything to do with it as my hearing is good with hearing aids, so have i got a appeal case. also how do i appeal. uk police by the way. thanks.

This is a difficult one. They won't be discriminating against you because of a disability per se but may be refusing you entry for health and safety reasons.

There are just some professions where certain disabilities make you ineligible to join.

I would suggest that you contact the force you are applying to and ask them if there's anything that can be done.

You are entitled to appeal but that doesnt mean you will win. In fact the 'chief officer' can refuse any person and is allowed to do so without giving any reason at all. Its sad and unfair but true.
On a positive note the police are now (and have been for the past couple of years) subject to the disability discrimination act.
In years gone by asthma and diabetes were automatic bans on an application but now people are successful at application with both. Good luck.

If you could appeal, you may not win. while your hearing may be excellent with the hearing aids in, it would be seriously (and potentialy fataly) impared if your batteries died, the aids where damaged somehow (e.g. durin a violent arrest) or there was some other major problem.
Because of the nature of the job, the police can have restrictions on disabilties, that most companies couldn't.
It is possible that you might be able to join the force in a different role.

I'm not sure how the U.K. works in this regard. You may consider another job in the same line of work. I'm sure they have to establish certain standard and it is unfortunate that this is happening to you. Someone like you will be an asset to any department, can you find something in that line without having to pass a hearing test?

Probably not. A lot of operational work needs the use of earphones (Airwave radio, surveillance etc). I think you'll find there is a legal exemption in your case. Try writing in and asking the grounds - they'll let you know

you can become a liability so why not try for a desk job at your local nick. good luck its a shame when you want to do such a thankless job and get refused.

100 percent definatley! this makes me angry it is discrimination you should win your case.
