I am interested in starting the process of making a law. In Arizona, how do I get started?

the law I am trying to pursue is to make it mandatory drug testing for any state aid. Currently I know a few who have addictions that are abusing the system. If I know a few, then there must be hundreds. Thanks

California has a similar regulation for applying to the Cal Grant (though it's more based on drug record, rather than testing). While writing your representative/senator is a good first step, you need to keep the pressure up. Get a petition (I don't know if Arizona uses the initiative and referendum) to get it on the ballot. Organize town hall meetings, talk to a law firm with a lobbying outfit or an outright public relations/lobbying company. They usually have offices in the capital or major cities. Manatt, Phelps, and Phillips operates here in California with offices in Sac and LA, but I'm sure you have strong firms in Phoenix.

The goal is to keep up pressure, through grassroots organizing, fundraising for pro-drug law candidates, and movin through the party structure Republicans seem to be stronger on drug control policies, so get in touch with your local GOP organization, convention delegates and county party coordinators.

I'm a registered independent, but I like to hear about normal citizens takin the business of democracy in their own hands. Keep me posted!

You need to request it from your state representative. If they don't do anything about it, run for office yourself and push it through.

You write it up and ask your state senator or state legislator to propose it in the proper committee as a new bill.

You need to write your representatives at the local or state level.
