Thanks for your help and I was wondering if you could tell me if my estimates were
realistic? And if they are not, would you mind telling me what are the realistic costs? And
if there are any other items I forgot, please let me know.
Thank you VERY much. :D Wow :) Great job on the list. I think you got just about everything!
Again, the things mentioned below are not necessary unless you want to buy them. . . .
The prices for bell boots are generally about $12-37 depending on what kind you'd like.
Polo wraps are about $8.95 to 25.00. I've seen some boots that were $69, but those were special boots that had many features, but I doubt you'd be needing those :)
Jolly balls for the horse to play with are about $8 to 23.00. Some are more expensive if they are scented :)
Goat companions, from what I've seen, are about $200 - 1000. I'm not sure how much horse companions would be, but I'd suggest looking it up on some 'horse for sale' sites. You could also get a donkey, as I've heard that they often get along great with the other horse!
Good luck! Wow. Yea. That's pretty accurate. Some of the things on that list were a little higher than what they are in my state, which is Michigan.
Great job and very thorough. Someone has been shopping, its a great list. I have never really paid attention to what i buy, i just know i need it LOL Now i know how much i have been spending LOL Thanks :P english stirrups are more in the $60-150 range... good irons alone will cost you upwards of $20
and saddles are MUCH more than that good but a water trough and crop will prob be a little mroe I think your hay & feed costs might be a bit low, but if you have lots of grass, I guess it would do. I pay $25 for 1 bag of feed, $60 for 1 round bale, $6 per small square bale. Also, you didn't consider supplements.
Medical supplies - a 1st aid kit won't do it. You need ace, banamine, SMZ's, needles and syringes, ice packs, cotton, gauze, elastoplast or vet wrap, epsom salts, duct tape, bute, rubbing alcohol, standing wraps, thermometer, topical antibiotic, betadine, gloves.... bunches of stuff.
I also didn't see blankets or sheets on your list Tack trunk $ would be more realistic @
$20 Cheap Plastic Container (Walmart)
$60 Stanley tool trunk (Home Depot)
$250 Diamond or Sport Trunks
$400-$1000 "Real" Tack Trunk
For just one horse you could easily store grain in metal trash cans...about $16, each holds 150# of sweet feed. (Cheaper than a cart)
Also...I would add a muck tub cart. Great job on compiling this list! : )
I can personally say, for the western stuff, it's gonna cost more though, and most of the time the stirrups come with the saddle. If you're planning on showing western, then show saddles usually cost from about $2500 and higher. If you have money to spare when it comes to western show saddles, then i'd reccomend a Phil Harris, they're the best of the best, but quite expensive. Also, you don't especially need to buy a breastplate for western, if you're going to show. Also, a western show bridle is going to be at the very cheapest, $100.
However, this will only effect you if you're planning on getting some bling in the show ring. ; ) The all sound like pretty good prices and by the way when you said: Possible companion for horse- cat, goat, another horse:??? I wanted to tell you that donleys are a very good companion for a horse because they make the horse feel safe. The barn that I go to they have a donkey and they put the donkey in with the older horse because he gets scared often and it works you don't hear the horse neigh because he's scared or anything. Hope this helps! Wow..nice list! Looks like your ranges are overall pretty realistic.
Personally, I would plan on spending at least $500 on an English saddle (i dont know about the western). $500 will buy you a decent saddle...maybe something like a Wintec. If you want a nice saddle and have the money, go with something $1,000..that's still very reasonable for a nice saddle. The thought of a $200 saddle just scares me, and I know there out there. You also might consider buying a used saddle.
A helpful hint for the tack trunk: don't buy one out of a catalog. You can get pretty much the same thing of great quality at Lowes for half the price..around $50-75
For your boots, it depends on what discipline you do. I would recommend galloping boots such as Woof Boots ($60). Having a pair of bell boots (10-15$) and some polos (15$) lying around is a good idea. If your planning on trailering your horse places, you'll also want shipping boots (60-100$).
As far as a companion, another horse would be ideal, but a goat, donkey..probalby not a cat.. would be good.
Good luck! Whoo boy... Ok. Here is what I will do. If it is good, I will give it a * If it is bad, I willl give it a ^ if it could be better, i will give it a $. Good? Ok,

It is really nice keeping them at your house though, because you can go riding whenever you want, and you don't have to pay for board :D Good luck! |
