Hearing aids and young people. What do people think?

I have a moderate hearing loss in my right ear and a mild one in my left. I have had a hearing impairment my whole life (I'm 18), do to a genetic defect. When I was younger I had these dreadful, heavy, uncofterable BTE hearing aids that I refused to wear. Instead I opted to go around asking people to repeat themselves and turning up the volume on things. My finac茅 and I were talking about it, and he finally convinced me to go back to the audiologist. She tested my hearing, and recommended the Oticon Delta hearing aid. They were pricey, but she assured us (finac茅 and I) that it would greatly improve my life, and so we ordered them. They are kind of funky, they are white and have orange flowers on the casing (I think the patter was called In Bloom?) and have a translucent tube. They are small. I was just wondering, if you wear hearing aids, how has it improved your life? Are you glad you bought them? How do you think people will react if they notice a young person wearing hearing aids?

It doesn't matter what anyone but you and your fiance think! If it improves your life, WEAR IT. I have a friend, who's 17, who's almost completely deaf in one ear. He sometimes wears his hearing aid, and it really isn't much of an issue for him. I think the reaction would first be surprise: how can a young person need a hearing aid? But then it sinks in that it's a medical condition, and it's shoved out of the mind. That's how I react, anyway.

I am about the same age as you and have had the Oticon Deltas for about a year now and they are awesome. I have mild hearing loss and they help so much. As a guy they can be seen but most don't notice. with them being so small rarely do people even notice I have them in they are awesome.

It is far better to hear what people are saying than it is to worry about how people will react to your having a hearing aid. The reaction of others is not your problem, it's theirs.
