A question about for animal lovers about animal testing?

If you suffered from AIDS,cancer,cerable palsy,or some other horrible,incurable and crippling disease,and a cure for it was developed through animal testing,and the animals that were used as test suspects were tortured and put through unimaginable cruelty,would you still accept and get the cure,knowing where it came from?

I would'nt accept the cure.

There are two issues here....

1) ALL medicines - BY LAW - have been tested on animals. Many have been discovered and developed using animals as part of the research, and all will have been safety tested on animals. Most biologicals (eg vaccines) are also batch tested (in some cases on animals) to ensure they are as they should be.
If you do not wish to take medication that has involved animals then take nothing! Everything - from lifesaving medication for serious diseases, to the painkillers you take for a headache, has been tested on animals.

2) Are you assuming that all lab animals are "tortured and put through unimaginable cruelty"?

I don't need to imagine anything - I have been inside labs and seen animal research firsthand. It is nothing like people imagine - nothing like I imagined.
I have seen many lab animals kept in better conditions than many pets! Did you know many of the rabbit cages for sale in the UK would not be legal to use in a lab because they are too small?
And not all of the tests are as bad as you might think. Some involve nothing more than a single injection, then a blood test later to see if it worked.

I AM an animal lover. I am a big supporter of animal welfare, donate to animal charities, try to educate people on proper housing and care, adopt - not buy - my pets, etc.
But I have no problem with animal research while it is still necessary. And make no mistake - it IS necessary. We do not currently have the knowledge or technology to completely replace animals in research. Until then humane, strictly regulated animal use is vital to develop new medications.

How many drugs shown to be safe in animal testing have had to be pulled off the market due to dangerous side effects in humans? How many drugs that were not safe in animal testing might have been safe on humans?

Thalidomide, for example, was shown to be safe in animal testing, but when it was given to pregnant women, it caused horrible birth defects.

NO!! I don't at all condone the use of animals bcz they are not WILLING! there are plenty of ppl out there who will actually volunteer for things like this and if i had something like that i would be the one doing it. Then my body would either benifit from the so called "solution" or else i would not get any better. the odds that it wouldmake things worse all in all at the time are not very good however the odds that the cure would help prolly aren't either. Either way no its still not right.

NO i wouldn't. IF i was suffering a disease that was deadly, i wouldn't put many animals though torturing and pain possibly death to help myself. Nobody should be that selfish.

Seriously- No one knows , of course you will say NO now that everything is fine with you , but the strongest instinct in every living been is survival, so I wouldn't bet on it.
