Mandatory aids testing do you support it or are you against it?

I don't see the harm; specially considering some people may not know they are infected with the virus/disease and then unknowingly go on to infect another partner. I guess some would say this is an invasion of ones privacy..I don't think any testing is mandatory..but then what privacy do we have left anyways? George Orwell rests happily in his grave

First off, and sorry to correct you but this is a pet peeve of mine: there is no such thing as 'AIDS' testing... You are tested for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, ands AIDS is a syndrome.


The truth of the matter is that in our society, HIV is not nearly as prevelant as we are led to beleive and people are not exposed to it as much as thy think they are. We see and hear harrowing accounts of epidemics in places like Africa where over a quarter of the popualtion in some areas are HIV+, and it scares us. But when you start to demand that everyone be tested, you create this sort of mass hysteria. I see so many question here on HIV where people are literally loosing sleep becasue they think they have HIV after being exposed to a pea sized drop of dried blood from someone who they don't even know is HIV+ or not, and after a while I start to wonder how people can be so misinformed.

So shouold we demand that everyone be tested? No, we should instead make everyone informed. I don't mean to downplay the seriousness of HIV/AIDS, especially on the world stage, but it seems that ignorance breeds ignorance, to the point where a good part of the population beleives that you can get HIV from kissing (which of course is completely false!).

Of course use protection everytime you have sex until you know your partner is clean, use your own sterile needles, don't get a tattoo from that sketchy studio, etc., and then if you think you might have been exposed, by all means get tested! But that should be your RESPONSIBILTY becasue it is your choice, and not an obligation to the government. It is more important to inform yourself about potential health risks instead of getting hyped up over them.

well depending on certain things it is mandatory --- like joining the military they have to get tested regularly ... and being pregnant(at least if you go to the dr) he will run an aids test ........ so its already reaching that point in some ways.. but I am for it being part of your anual physical because so many people have it and spread it without knowing . if the disease wasnt Deadly then i would say heck no , but since now there are new strains that are drug resistant and killing people faster then ..yea

Absolutely not! This country already has far too many mandatory this and mandatory that. If you want to be sure, test yourself and insist that your partner get tested. For christ sake we don't need any more dang laws!

I believe it would violate a person's right to privacy.
