Not sure what I have...

First of all, it seems as though I have trouble sleeping. There are some nights when I cannot go to sleep at all, such as tonight. I took Sleep Aid Capsules at around 11:30 PM and it is now 4:00 AM and I'm not in the least bit tired.

Secondly, my heart will randomly start beating rapidly and I'll start to feel lightheaded. It'll last for about 15-20 seconds and sometimes I nearly pass out. The last time I can remember this happening was back when I was throwing ~35 pound bails of hay from a loft into a barnyard. I walked down the stairs of the loft and into the barnyard which is when my heart started to beat rapidly.

Also, I tend to have a short memory span when it comes to anything other than important information. Any important information given to me I will retain for a prolonged amount of time, but all the other information given to me at the time will be completely forgotten. For instance, I can't remember anything from last week but I have an extremely keen memory and score well on all tests without studying.

I would go to a doctor but I can't afford it at the moment so any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You really should go to a doctor if at all possible, and get your thyroid checked for hyperthyroidism.

Until that is possible, try to significantly increase the amounts of broccoli, spinach, and soy products (e.g. soybeans, soy milk) you eat. All have been shown to have temporary inhibiting effects on thyroid function if taken in larger than average quantity. If your symptoms improve, that is a good indication that your thyroid is involved. If not, no harm done.
