Sick Cat - weepy eyes and can't breath?

My parents cat has had weepy eyes for a few months. They took it to the vet and were given medication. The cat is now having trouble breathing. The vet says in cat aids FIV and the only option is to get her tested and then make her comfortable.
She has always been an indoors cat, never in contact with other cats. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms ? what did it turn out to be?

Has she actually been tested for FIV? It may only be an upper respiratory infection. I had 3 young kittens with similar symptoms, weepy eyes and a little cough. They were tested for FIV and were negative. They were prescribed Clavamox, an antibiotic. Their symptoms improved in about 3 days. Good luck!

I am sorry if the vet has told you it has FIV then she has it
She was probably born with it. It is not necessarily a
death sentence. She can be made comfortable by a high protein diet and very aggressive treatment of secondary
infections such as the one your describe ie breathing problems which is usually an upper respiratory infection, bladder and kidney infections. If you cannot afford this treatment it is best to let her go. I am very very sorry for you and your parents.

mine had trouble breathing so we steamed her.well not literally..heres what may help yours.

Steaming
Steaming your cat can help clear the nasal passages and make the cat feel more comfortable. My cats have been having steams for years because they suffer from chronic post-viral rhinitis ("the snuffles"), and they love them. In the lounge, and then they can stay in their basket afterwards but still have some company. This is how we steam them:

put cat in a secure carrying basket and lock it.

Place a bowl of boiling water in front of the basket (where the cat can't dip his/her paws in, naturally).

Drape the whole lot with towels and leave for 15-20 mins (check regularly to ensure cat is not distressed).

Do this three times a day while symptoms are present.

yeah, enjoy the time you have with her, she has probably had it since she was a kitten and she is now in the later stages by the sound of it? has she also had problems with her teeth/gums and loosing weight?
The vet needs to run tests on her kidney & liver function and give he high dose antibiotcs and steriods to combate infections probably forever now.

I have had similar symtoms with my cat. after she could not breath well she stopped walking. we made her feel like she was in haven for we did not know if she was going to live. we gave her medications... ect. she sadly died... :( she was the best cat we could ever have, she loved me so much that she went off and died in the woods for she did not want us sad. BUT dont loose hope. NEVER loose it. but make her feel like shes in hevan. buy her fav. treats, toys, food, ect. and luv on her. and make sure that u ask the doctors is that all u can do. i hope this helps and good luck to u and ur precious cat.

I am not a vet and I am only giving you my opinion but...those are very similar to the symptoms of an upper respiratory infection...
Have you thought about possibly taking her to a different vet for another look?

i dont know what ur cat has but if he/she is havin trouble breathing then i think u should put her to sleep... dont torture her . sorry... but make sure there is no cure first.... i pray for the best though.... good luck!

yes i have my cat was diagnosed with the same thing my cat max eventually died

oh poor kitty I feel so sorry for all of these people with sick kitties! :( :( :(
