What happens after you get AIDS?

Not as in,"you get sick, and die" type answer, but as in when you get tested and the results come back positive, what's your next step? Is there anything thats required you have to do?

After a person has tested HIV+ there are many options available. The first thing is to work with the agency you tested at to find a treatment team to work with in you region. It will depend on the doctors, you may start on medications or they may have you wait. Aslo you will need blood work to see if you have any immunities to the medications. If the person who infected you had drug resistance you not only get the HIV infection, you alos could have the same resistance to the medications of your partner.

You will need to look at your lifestyle as an important part of treatment is plenty of rest, well balanced diet, exercise, medication adherance (if you are on meds) and to cut back on drinking and drug use if that is a part of your life.

You will need to work with a partner notification team to identify sexual partner since your last HIV test that you were nrgative as it will be important to give these people the option of testing.

It sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. The good news if you take very good care of yourself and were recently diagnosised the average life expectance is now over 35 years. The other important factor is people can be HIV+ but never turn into AIDS.

Your body's immune system slowly weakens when you have HIV. You can take drugs that will slow the process and keep your immune system strong for a long time. People don't die from AIDS, their immune system gets so weak that they can't fight off things like pneumonia and other infections.

Getting under the supervision of a doctor and staying on the medications you're prescribed can make decades of difference in your lifespan.

Do you mean you tested positive for AIDS or HIV, the virus that causes AIDS? Before someone has AIDS they have HIV. After testing positive for HIV you will be started on a heavy dose of medication called a cocktail, and you can sometimes experience life for as long as 10 years being symptom free. However, eventually when your T-cell count falls below a certain number you will have acquired AIDS. Having AIDS means your immune system is severely compromised making it much easier for you to get sick.

I'm not sure about what the next step would be but I am pretty sure there is medicine you can take to HELP take care of AIDS although I don't think there is a cure, is there? I'm going on wellness memory when we learned about STDs and since I never really had to worry about getting AIDS I don't look into it.

First thing I would do is fast and pray and ask GOD to heal me. That is a rough disease but they have drugs that can keep you alive longer so ask your doctor. I have even read that there is a South African who found a plant that helps people live a normal life with normal eating habits. Look that plant in Africa up it is cheap. Good Luck

You take drugs to help to boost what is left of your immune system and fight infections - these have increased life expectancy of aids sufferers and they can now expect to live to be around 60 rather than dying in their 30s.

the next step is take the med. everyday and tell people before you sleep with them and i sorry that you got aids or some body you know

no, but i would suggest tell the people you slept with to get tested.....other then that you will be in shock for a LONG time.

No there is nothing more that is required of you. You just have to plan your budget to include ARV's if they are not free in ur area!
