After how long would an AIDS test be relevant?

my gf stung herself with a needle (she s a nurse), how much time needed for STD to show in a test? STD transmit only through the tip of the penis? Besides condoms, what precautions should i take?

This is a difficult question as the answer is not well-defined. Firstly, what is the question at hand? You have stated AIDS test in the title and then moved on to STD in the question. If it is HIV that you are concerned about, partly, it depends upon the type of testing (in different countries, different testing methods are used).

If we are talking about antibody testing for HIV, usually, antibodies show up after 3 weeks of infection; however, in research, it has been demonstrated in some healthcare workers that HIV infection has not shown up for up to six months. Furthermore, antiretroviral therapy during this period can prevent antibodies showing up in the testing for up to 12 months!

If it's general STDs/STIs you are concerned with, then there are a plethora of infections, all with different routes.

As far as HIV transmission, you need to be aware that sexual transmission can occur when infected sexual secretions of one partner come into contact with the genital, oral, or rectal mucous membranes of another partner, hence:
genital-genital transmission
genital-oral transmission
genital-rectal transmission

There is unlikely to be very much risk in you receiving unprotected oral sex from your partner (unless of course she has lacerations in her mouth), but you would need to use a dental dam when giving her oral sex to protect yourself. You should also use condoms during intercourse until she has been cleared of infection.

However, as your girlfriend is a nurse, perhaps it's best to ask her.....she'll know all of this.

Lastly, perhaps sex is the last thing to worry about for now.....just support her - it must be a very difficult time for her.

Good luck!

are u sure she "stung herself with a needle" and not "cheating on u" and she is using that as an excuse in case she gets something? one would assume hospital staff was better trained for "accidentaly" stinging themselves with hospital trash in the year 2008....sounds suspicious.

But the best way to protect yourself from an STD, is to treat her as if she has one and avoid any kind of bodily fluid from her, including saliva etc.

If she got stuck generally they test the host of whose needle it was for HIV and what not. Different things have different routes as well as different times for testing, especially HIV. There are things out there that are as bad as an STD! Test the host I'd say and go from there because Hepatitis B can be transmitted through saliva.
